Chris and I have always LOVED Halloween…and witches and are interested in the Occult…not to the point of scary stuff, like Satanism, but Gods and Goddesses, metaphysical stuff, etc….so friends of ours, Lisa & Dave, suggested we go to Salem to celebrate Halloween of 2009, we were all about it. For anyone who hasn’t been to Salem, it’s a HUGE party town on Halloween….everyone dresses up and parties in the streets on that day. There are also a lot of Wicca living in the area and the town is dedicated to the history of Witchcraft back in the Salem witch trial days. We were pretty interested in checking it out…I love a good party and people dressing up so off we went.
We had a great time walking the streets, people were all dressed up in some really interesting and funny costumes…we got to see the Salem Witch Museum, see a Mock Witch Trial and go to several retail shops that sold Wiccan and Magickal items. I had an interesting conversation with a Wiccan woman, about the Goddess, Feminism and the like. We got to see Laurie Cabot’s house…Laurie Cabot is a bonified Witch, she’s written tons of books and does psychic readings….I was going to get one done but they were about $100…..so I passed. We saw genuine Voodoo dolls for sale though…blessed by Marie Laveau…Voodoo queen. Got to see the graves of some pretty famous people…I’m not at all a History buff but we saw Samuel Adams’ grave, as well as some other witch trial people. I was always under the impression that MA was a liberal town, so we were shocked to see religious demonstrators walking the streets protesting the celebration of Halloween and dissing on Homosexuality. Of course, as this doesn’t fly with us Liberal folks, men started making out with each other and all four of us got into a screaming match with the protestors. We left pretty pissed off but had a good time in Boston at a club called “The Roxy” on Halloween night……lots o’ drinking and dancing….and of course some Hooters wings…can’t get much better than that LOL.
